Directions

11- Put water and split peas in a large pot and bring to a boil. Let boil for about 5 minutes, and then bring to a simmer.

22- Add carrots, potatoes, garlic, and all spices. Let simmer until peas are cooked well. Stir often, and check water level often.

33- Add celery and simmer until celery is cooked.

Ingredients

1- 2 cups (450 g) yellow split peas

2- 6 to 7 cups (1410 to 1645 ml) water

3- 2 large potatoes, diced

4- 2 or 3 garlic cloves, pressed or minced

5- 2 carrots, diced

6- 3 celery stalks, diced

7- 1 teaspoon dried marjoram

8- 1 teaspoon dried basil

9- 1 teaspoon fresh parsley

10- 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard

11- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

12- 1 bay leaf, crumpled

13- Salt and pepper, to taste
